NASCAR History

Currently NASCAR is the most popular auto racing sport in the United States. NASCAR competes annually with Formula One Racing as one of the most popular auto sports in the world. The heart of NASCAR is still in Southeastern US considered the heartland of NASCAR, although races are held all over the US. Currently NASCAR is headquartered in Daytona Beach, Florida with many members living in Charlotte, North Carolina.

NASCAR can trace its roots back to world war II. After soldiers returned home, the demand for automobiles increased, and car companies switched their focus from military equipment to muscle cars. This is where the American muscle car was born, and soon local showdown and even racing events began popping up all over the states. Many different associations and organizations with different rules which prevented the sport from gaining popularity on a national level.

In 1947 Bill France met with the leaders of 35 different associations to create a uniform set of rules. After four days NASCAR was born, known as the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing and the organization become official in February of 1948. The first races were comprised of pre war modified cars in which became known as the "modified" series. The circuit was 52 races, and years later the rule was drafted to run a strictly "stock" series in which no modifications were accepted and thus the stock car racing was born.

Today NASCAR has three main series: The Sprint Cup series, Nationwide Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The "Chase for the Sprint Cup" is the most popular and highest level of NASCAR racing. There are over 36 races each year at the top race tracks in the country, each stadium seating over 100,000 fans. The atmosphere LIVE at a NASCAR race as explained by fans far exceeds any race you will see on television. Fans will camp out weeks in advance at different venue and tail gate. These experiences seperate NASCAR from most other sporting events and it one of reasons the sport is so popular. Great like Dale Earnhart, Richard Petty, Bill Elliot, Jeff Gordon have shaped the sport into what it is today. So buy NASCAR Sprint Cup Tickets from BestBuyTix and save today.
