Atlanta Braves 2011 Season Preview

The NL East that was once dominated for years by the Braves has now been handed over to the Philadelphia Phillies. The Braves in 2010 really gave the Phillies a run for their money to capture the NL east, but did take the Wild Card. Unfortunately the Braves ran into the future World Series Champs. Although they came up short, a taste of the playoffs may be what this team of young players may need to give them a boost in 2011.

Some key acquisition for the Braves in 2011 include the addition of the power hitter they need in Dan Uggla, although he will not improve their much needed defense. One thing the Braves won't need to worry about is their pitching lineup, which ranked tops in the league and their already stocked bullpen with Johnny Venter and Craig Kimbrel has had little change. The one thing the Braves will focus on is who will close after the loss of Billy Wagner. The loss of Troy Glaus, Omar Infant and Matt Diaz will be somewhat significant. They are hoping Joe Mather who had an off season in 2010, Dan Uggla Jason Heyward will step up, because noone is sure how good Chipper Jones will be, and if he will even play.

The biggest part of the team that needs to be filled is the loss of Bobby Cox who was respected and beloved in the clubhouse. He's led the Braves to 12 straight NL Division titles, 2 world series appearances, 1 world series title and rejuvinated the city of Atlanta into a sports town for some time. The Braves have the best potential to compete with the Phillies, and have a good shot at the wildcard in 2011 because of their picture, they just need to focus on scoring runs and improving on defense.

Atlanta Braves history

The Atlanta Braves are one of the oldest baseball teams and have held many different names and played in many different cities. The Braves were founded in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings. The team name changed multiple times before they moved to Milwaukee and became the Braves. The team finally moved to their current home Atlanta in 1966. Currently the Braves are one of the only 2 remaining original National League founding teams still in existance and are the only team in history to win a title in 3 different cities.

The Atlanta Braves have a long history of winning and great players. Although they've only won a total of 3 World Series, the last coming in 1995, the Braves has had a long history of winning. From 1991 - 2005 the Braves won the NL East every year with their long WS win coming in 1995. With their Hall of Fame Coach Bobby Cox, and arguably the best pitching lineup in history (Gregg Maddux, Tom Glavin and John Smoltz) the Braves were a very popular and likeable team, and crushed opposing teams, winning over 100 games 4 times in the 91-05 NL East run. The Braves also had one of the most influencial players that ever played the game, and holds one of the greatest moments in baseball history. on April 8th, 1974 Henry 'Hank' Aaron passed Babe Ruth for the most home runs in a baseball career, a record that stood for many years before that. What made it so inspiring is during a time of civil rights, Hank Aaron gave many African American ball players inspiration that they can make an impact in baseball. Aaron is a hall of famer that finished with 755 home runs and is one of the most influential players for the Braves and baseball

The Braves currently play baseball in the National League Conference in the National League East. They currently play at Turner Field in Atlanta, GA. Turner field is relatively new and hosts plenty of ammenities for families to enjoy Braves games and holds over 50,000 fans.
